YUDU Media, the UK’s leading provider of digital editions, has entered the eBook market today with the launch of its Multimedia Books product. Book publishers now have the option of a rich, alternative, digital format to create book previews and entire books that can drive publishers’ sales and increase revenues alongside their print editions.
Multimedia Books are accessed online and can be enhanced with video, audio, flash and live web links creating a more powerful reading experience. They take the form of a ‘print’ publication and are read in a linear, page-turning format.
The innovative ‘digital edition’ technology from YUDU Media allows readers to archive search and locate specifics within past and present publications, with search results highlighted for easy location, ideal for educational or research books.
Unique razor sharp vector text and infinite zoom makes even the smallest text easy to read. A parallel text-only publication version can also be created that integrates with screen readers for the blind and partially sighted.
YUDU Media boasts its own Digital Rights Management system that protects Multimedia Books from unauthorised access and can be linked to a subscription system or login to keep databases up to date.
Book publishers using Multimedia Books have the advantage of an excellent return on investment resulting from reduced printing, postage and distribution costs, while increasing their breadth of readership with effortless distribution. It also allows for cost-effective cloning and updating of pages instead of reprinting the whole publication as each new edition comes out.
Multimedia Books are also ideal for learning over the internet and can include such content as video lectures, interviews with authors, links to reviews and background reading as well as audio for language learning.
Skoldo, a YUDU Media partner, which publishes language learning Multimedia Books for kids, use audio tracks for read-along tuition that help the learning process. The YUDU Multimedia Books bring the language alive with rich media that children can recognise and respond to and are great for parents at home or teachers in the classroom.
“YUDU Media provides a profitable business opportunity for book publishers who are looking to embrace the current explosion of digital book applications and increase revenue from the internet,” says Richard Stephenson, Chairman, YUDU Media. “Publishers are empowered to take control over their own publishing process and create their own Multimedia Books that are cost effective, immediate and quick and easy, even for the non-professional publisher.”
Lucy Montgomery, Director, Skoldo says, “Multimedia Books are ideal for learning because children can interact with the audio and visual part of the software and find it really fun. But the real value of hearing a story read in a foreign language is that it’s a unique way of listening to a perfect accent which helps the children’s pronunciation and comprehension.”
